ADU Webinar | Jan 9, 2024

TPRTA was one of the first to call for the creation of ADUs as one way to make housing that’s affordable more easily available in Truro.    ADUs –  Accessory Dwelling Units – are a simple way for those inclined to construct and or convert habitable spaces  to make residential options available on a more attainable basis.  While there are many factors that play into this decision, we encourage TPRTA members to consider ADUs –  the permit application materials are found in this link.

Community Development Partnership is hosting a webinar on Jan 9, 2024 to provide information on this strategy.   Click here to register.  More info follows.

CDP Annoucment of the Jan 9 Webinar

Jonathan Berk will be the main speaker, many of you will recognize him from the recent OneCape Summit.  Jonathan is a real estate consultant, attorney, and licensed broker pushing the frontiers of urban development. With special expertise in community-building and placemaking, he works with both sophisticated and novice developers and investors to help them navigate complex development processes to realize their creative visions.

Talitha Abramsen of the ADU Resource Center will speak to the challenges and opportunities of ADUs, and the Cape Cod Commission will preview their Regional Housing Strategy!

Historically, zoning has been used to exclude development, uses, and people. This workshop will explore how we can reimagine zoning to encourage certain development patterns, create needed homes, and attract a range of residents. Zoning-based tools ranging from ADU’s to design standards and housing “by right” can be used to accomplish these goals; this workshop will also discuss the practicalities of implementing these strategies.

This workshop is open to Town board and committee members and Town staff who are directly involved in housing, including (but not limited to!): Finance Committee, Community Preservation Committee, Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Board, Select Board, Board of Health, Conservation Commissions, members of Affordable Housing Trusts, Housing Committee, all housing staff, planners and community development staff. We also welcome resident housing advocates and future town leaders!

Attendance is free and pre-registration is necessary. This is a virtual workshop. CDP  will send the Zoom link with the workshop reminder. Click here to register.
