Good Neighbor | Truro Continues to Bring Real Help During COVID-19

Good Neighbor  | Truro was created by several of Truro’s full and part-time residents in April 2020 to bring the help to those who were most vulnerable in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.    Within weeks of the call for volunteers, nearly 65 residents came to the aid of our neighbors.

“Good Neighbor Truro represents the best of our community — this is PHENOMENAL!”                                                        –  Sen. Julian Cyr

GNT has provided help in getting food and other market needs, pharma, mail, Food Pantry deliveries, and many one-of-a kind requests, even installing A/Cs in the homes of our most elderly when the summer heat became unbearable.

Together, GNT volunteers have answered hundreds of requests for assistance.    Many requests came through the Truro COA  while others came through referral and direct request.  We delivered from the Truro Farmer’s Market to ensure our most vulnerable neighbors get the best of Truro’s healthiest farm-to-table fare  and that our farmers and other food providers stay in business.

Many GN|T volunteers have provided weekly food delivery service to the more than 100 Truro residents who receive free meals weekly from Truro Community Kitchen,, it self a generous and continuing response to Truro’s needs.

“I am so grateful that you have coordinated this. Early on in the epidemic, there was no central resource like what you have now created.”

– Rep. Sarah Peake

We have also received some lovely acknowledgements, for example:

“I would like to thank [GNT]  for picking up our mail for many many months. This kindness and care will stay with us forever. I also want to thank the Good Neighbor volunteers for everything you have done for us. ….Just want you all to know how appreciative we are for all your help!”

Denise S, Truro resident

This are tributes to the generosity of Truro’s neighbors and the kindness of strangers.  May we remember this when need for help arises again.  This truly brought us together as a community.

GNT continues to provide assistance to Truro Community Kitchen, the COA, and individuals who request help. We will be available to assist our neighbors, as and if needed, throughout the winter months.  But as Regan McCarthy, one of the founders of Good Neighbor | Truro  said

“It will be a good day when no one needs a Good Neighbor | Truro and we can all go out, get the things we want and need, and have fun together without any concern for health and safety.”

If you need assistance or know of anyone who does in order to stay safe an healthy in the COVID-19 pandemic, please return to the home page and look for the “Good Neighbor” menu on the top right.  Posts on this site also  give information on how to make requests as well.

Stay well, stay safe, and be COVID-smart –  live to enjoy another day in Truro!
