The Select Board Race is On | Three Candidates, Two Positions

Today was the closing date for pulling papers for elected offices in Truro. Those who filed will be on the May ballots.  Elections will be held on May 13.   April 10 is the deadline to file  objections or withdraw nomination papers.  Who knew?

If you intend to register to vote in Truro, you must register by April 23 to vote at Town Meeting and by May 3 to vote in Truro elections.   If you are eligible it’s easy by using the Secretary of State website portal.

Three Truro citizens pulled papers to run for Select Board:  Sue Areson. John Dundas, and Bob Weinstein.

Sue Areson has been on the Select Board for several years and is currently Chair, working hard to restore civility and balance to Select Board meetings.

John Dundas was on the Select Board, stepped off last year, but apparently missed the job –  and is running again. In the interim, he had become active on the Board of Health.

Bob Weinstein is the current Vice-Chair, long serving on the SB, Planning Board and other Town Committees. Recently, he has become increasingly controversial member of the Select Board, including his removal from the AdHoc Building Committee as SB liaison this winter.

Another important committee, the Planning Board has three candidates running for two position. Two are long-serving on this Board:  Paul Kiernan  and Jack Riemer. a third candidate, Harlen Howard, was a late submission.  His interests, experience and campaign plans are unknown.

Other sections will be held for the School Committee, Cemetery Commission, Housing Authority, and Library Trustee.  Each has one position open, and all are for 3 year terms except the Housing Authority  (for 5 years).

There will be a Candidates Night before elections and additional information will be made available in the coming weeks.
