Special Town Meeting | House Size, Cannabis, Financial Articles Pass with Large Margins

Voters turned out to tonight Truro’s Special Town meeting prepared to move forward into new and unprecedented territory.

House Size Limits: More than 75% of the 234 voters present passed a House Size cap article limiting house size in residential districts of Truro. This article joins a sister article passed in 2017 establishing similar limits in the Seashore.  This has been attempted many times –  TPRTA is proud to have urged the adoption of house size limits for more than a decade, and  congratulates all in One Truro and the Planning Board s well as voter swho made this possible –  especially Truro’s voters!

Cannabis: The Planning Board’s version of the “cannabis articles” passed overwhelmingly  (without vote count), allowing the Town-based regulation of the cultivation, production and sale of marijuana in Truro after several amendments were made:

  • to increase marijuana “micro” businesses from 1 to 2
  • to allow marijuana retail businesses to share space with other retailers
  • to increase the individual operator’s canopy size (the square footage of cultivation footprint) from 10,000 sf to 20,000 sf with a collective cap increase from 50,000 sf to 70,000 sf. {Note the High Dunes Coop intends to grow outdoors and organically.]
  • Voters defeated an amendments to ban electric lights for use in cultivation.

Financial Articles:  Articles 1 to 5  on financial/budget housekeeping matters also passed overwhelmingly
